User Guide - Joomla!

Applicable Plans: All Standard VPS, all Advanced VPS, all Premier VPS plans (CentOS 5 plans)

Joomla! is a full-featured content management system for deploying simple web sites to complex corporate applications. In addition to standard web sites for organizations and companies, Joomla! is being used for portals, commerce sites, intranets, extranets, and community oriented sites.

Requirements

Joomla! must be installed in your VPS subscription. This can be done by selecting it when you order the eApps VPS hosting service or by installing it using the Control Panel after the service has been provisioned. To see if Joomla! is already installed login to your Control Panel and click on the All Applications icon. If it is not in the installed list, you may install it by clicking on the Add Application icon from the System tab and selecting Joomla then clicking Next.

Enabling Joomla!

Even though Joomla! is installed in your VPS subscription it is not enabled for your site yet. The reason for this is because you may want Joomla to only be activated for some of your sites. To enable Joomla! for a site, click on the Site tab, click on the Joomla icon, then click Disable button, then Enable button. Once you click this sequence Joomla! will be installed for that site. This step must be repeated for each site for which you want to to use Joomla!.

Serving Joomla Content as Your Document Root

1. Login to your control panel -> Site tab -> select the site -> click Web Site Settings -> Custom Settings and add the line below.

DocumentRoot /home/webadmin/sitename/html/joomla

If your site admin user is not webadmin please replace webadmin above with your site admin user.

2. Edit the .htaccess file in /home/webadmin/sitename/html/joomla and remove the comment in front of the line below.

# RewriteBase /

Again if your site admin user is not webadmin please replace webadmin above with you site admin user.

http://domain.com/joomla/administrator

The default login ID and password can be found in the Description field on the page as follows:

Please be sure to change the password for the administrator user once you are in the administration mode!
