Managing IP Addresses

Overview

The IP addresses that are automatically provisioned for your Virtual Server will differ depending on the hosting platform. For a Virtual Cloud Server you are provisioned one public IP address, and for a Virtual Machine in the Cloud you are provisioned one public and one private IP address.

You can also provision additional IP addresses to your Virtual Server after it has been built. Each additional public IP address is billed at $1.00 (1 dollar) per month, and you can have a total of 25 IP addresses (with the first one allocated for free with the VS). Each additional internal (private) IP address is priced at $0.20 per month, and you can select up to 100 total. If you need more than the maximum allowed number of IP addresses, please contact eApps Sales for assistance.

The instructions for doing this using the ISPmanager, Plesk, and cPanel Control Panels are given below. If you have a Windows Server Virtual Server, please see the relevant user guides for Windows Server 2008 and Windows Server 2012.

Provisioning additional IP addresses

The method to provisioning an additional IP address for your Virtual Server varies depending on your hosting platform. All Virtual Servers are found under the My Cloud > Virtual Servers menu on the top navigation bar of the Portal. Depending on the age of your account, you may have Virtual Cloud Server or Virtual Machine in the Cloud headings, or both. To access the Virtual Server for either platform, click on the magnifying glass to the right of the Virtual Server listing.

Virtual Cloud Server Hosting Platform

By default, your Virtual Cloud Server comes with one public IP address. If you need additional IP addresses, including an internal IP address, you will need to purchase it through the Upgrade/Downgrade Options in the Customer Portal.

In the Customer Portal, go to My Cloud > Virtual Servers, and select the Virtual Server where you need to add the additional IP (click on the magnifying glass). In the Product Details screen, click on the Upgrade/Downgrade Options button at the top of the screen, and move the slider for either IP Addresses or Internal IPs to select the number you want. Once you have made your selection, click Click to Continue and follow the prompts to complete the order. Each IP Address is priced at $1.00 per month and you can select up to 25 total; each Internal IP is priced at $0.20 per month and you can select up to 100 total. If you need more than 25 IP Addresses or 100 Internal IPs, please contact eApps Sales.

More information on using the Upgrade/Downgrade feature can be found in the User Guide: Upgrade/Downgrade.

Once the IP addresses have been provisioned, the network will be rebuilt, which may cause your Virtual Server to reboot. Your IP addresses will be available for use from either the command line or a Control Panel once the network is rebuilt.

Virtual Machine in the Cloud Hosting Platform

By default, your Virtual Server comes with one public IP address and one internal IP address. If you need additional IP addresses you will need to purchase it through the Upgrade/Downgrade Options in the Customer Portal.

In the Customer Portal, go to My Cloud > Virtual Servers, and select the Virtual Server where you need to add the additional IP (click on the magnifying glass). In the Product Details screen, click on the link for Upgrade/Downgrade, and move the slider for either IP Addresses or Internal IPs to select the number you want. Once you have made your selection, click Click to Continue and follow the prompts to complete the order. Your Virtual Server will reboot to add the additional resources.

If you have a Virtual Machine in the Cloud hosting platform, you may have additional steps required before your Control Panel is able to make use of the new IPs. Please see the relevant section below for more information.

Adding an IP address using a Control Panel

Adding an IP address to the ISPmanager Control Panel

If you have a Virtual Server using the Virtual Machine in the Cloud Hosting Platform you will need to do some additional configuration in ISPmanager before the IP addresses are available. How to add a new IP address to the ISPmanager Control Panel will depend on whether you are using ISPmanager 4 or ISPmanager 5. If you are not sure which version of ISPmanager you are using, go here - ISPmanager versions.

ISPmanager 4

In ISPmanager 4, go to Server Settings > IP-addresses. This shows the IP addresses currently allocated to the Virtual Server.

To add the new IP address that you provisioned, click on New in the upper right hand corner. This opens the Assign a new IP-address screen.

Enter the new IP address that was just allocated to the VS, and then click Ok. This adds the new IP address to the Virtual Server.

ISPmanager 5

In ISPmanager 5, go to Settings > IP addresses. This shows the IP addresses currently allocated to the Virtual Server.

To add the new IP address that you provisioned, click on Add in the upper left. This opens the New IP address screen.

Enter the new IP address that was just allocated to the Virtual Server, and then click Ok. This adds the new IP address to the Virtual Server.

Order of IP addresses in ISPmanager

Note that the order of the IP addresses as shown in ISPmanager will not be the order in which they were entered. ISPmanager sorts them in numerical order, starting with the first octet, meaning that 10 comes before 68.

The new IP address is now ready for use. In the Virtual Server, the IP addresses are added in this order:

  • Original public IP address - eth0
  • Original internal IP address - eth1

  • The first additional IP address - either public or internal - eth0:0
  • The second additional IP address - either public or internal - eth0:1

The additional IP addresses are added in the order which they were added to ISPmanager.

Adding an IP address to Plesk

To add an IP address to Plesk, log in to the Plesk Admin interface, and from the Home screen, go to Server Management > Tools & Utilities > IP Addresses > Add IP Address.
