User Guide - SpamExperts User Guide

Overview

Note This User Guide explains how to access the SpamExperts web interface as a mail (non-administrative) user. This User Guide assumes that your domains are already configured to use SpamExperts, and that your e-mail address is correctly set up in the VPS.

Information on how to access SpamExperts as an Admin user and how to add your domains to the SpamExperts system are found here - http://support.eapps.com/vps/spamx_admin

SpamExperts is an anti-spam and anti-virus system available to eApps customers using the Virtual Private Server (VPS) plans. SpamExperts works by using a globally de-centralized network that scans e-mail messages to find and detect new spam and virus threats, and then uses that information to update locally hosted SpamExperts servers, such as the one at eApps.

SpamExperts is billed per VPS, with the first five domains in each VPS free. Each additional domain is billed at a rate of $1.00 per month.

Using SpamExperts

After your domain has been configured to use SpamExperts, your e-mail will start to go through the SpamExperts system to be filtered for spam and viruses before it is delivered to your inbox. SpamExperts also provides a web interface to their system, so that you can see your e-mail quarantine, and also configure a spam report to be sent to your e-mail address.

SpamExperts login

You can log in to the SpamExperts web interface at http://spamexperts.example.com. Make sure to substitute your domain name for example.com. If the first URL doesn’t work, you can also log in to SpamExperts at http://eapps-spx01.vm.eapps.com/.

SpamExperts login screen

  • Username/domain/email - enter your e-mail address

  • Password - enter your SpamExperts password

If this is your first time logging in to SpamExperts, click on the Retrieve log-in link. This will take you to a Password recovery screen.

SpamExperts Password recovery

Enter your e-mail address, and click Submit. This will send a password reset link to your e-mail address. Be aware that this link will only be valid for 15 minutes. If that time elapses, you will have to go back and generate a new link.

Click on the password reset link in the e-mail sent from SpamExperts. The subject of the e-mail will be Temporary link to change your password.

This takes you to a User’s profile page, where you can enter a password to access SpamExperts.

User's profile page

Click Save, and this will log you in to the SpamExperts web interface.

Note If you lose or forget your password, you can also use the Retrieve log-in link to reset your password

SpamExperts Dashboard

When you log in to SpamExperts, you are taken to the main Dashboard screen.

Dashboard

The Dashboard screen has sections for Incoming, Protection report, and Whitelist/Blacklist.

You can also view the Dashboard in the following languages: English, Dutch, French, German, Spanish, and Portuguese. Click on the appropriate flag to change the language.

Incoming

The Incoming section is where you can view the logs to see the disposition of any e-mail received, see the spam quarantine and delivery queue, and report spam.

Log search

The Log search allows you to view the previous 28 days worth of mail logs. You can search for specific messages, or see an overview of the delivery status of all messages. There are several available search parameters that you can use to fine tune your search, such as the Date range, Sender, and the Sender host.

Log search

Spam quarantine

In the Spam quarantine, you can see all e-mail messages that were marked as spam by the SpamExperts system. You can click on the Subject to safely view the message, or deliver or delete the message in the Action section. You can also search by Subject, Sender, or Recipient.

Delivery queue

If for some reason the destination server for the e-mail is not available, SpamExperts will hold the mail in the Delivery queue until it can be delivered. From the Delivery queue, you can retry to deliver all messages, or just selected messages. You can also check the Retry time to see when SpamExperts will attempt to deliver the message again.

Report Spam

You can upload any spam messages that make it past the SpamExperts filters to help train the program to be better at catching spam. The file must be in .eml format, which is supported by Microsoft Outlook Express, Windows Mail and Mozilla Thunderbird.

Report Spam

Protection Report

The Protection report is a report generated that can be sent to each user that shows what e-mails are in quarantine, and also the amount of e-mail received, broken down by “Spam”, “Not spam”, and “Viruses”. In the Edit settings for the report (the pencil icon to the right of each user) you can adjust the frequency of the report (daily or weekly), the format (HTML or PDF), the language, and you can also specify a different recipient.

Whitelist/Blacklist

By default, the recipient is “Unwhitelisted”, meaning that all e-mail for the user goes through the spam filters. You can also set the recipient to be “Whitelisted”, meaning that all e-mail for that user bypasses all spam filters. However, this should only be done with the understanding that you will no longer have any spam protection.
